Choosing a centrepiece

Your choice of table centrepiece reflects your theme, personal style and love for one another. Whether you’re thinking classy or understated, the right piece anchors the room, creating a beautiful landscape for the evening’s festivities. I

Types of wedding centrepieces

With so many options to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. With this in mind, we’ve highlighted a few of our favourite centrepieces for you to choose from.

Floral

There’s no denying, floral centrepieces make great wedding table decorations. A popular choice for many couples, there are options for all themes and budgets. If you’re envisaging a classy occasion, tall ivory pink blossom trees create an elegant backdrop to your reception venue. If you prefer a more understated option, you can turn your venue into romantic setting with traditional roses in vases.

Candelabra

If you’re planning a rustic, fairytale wedding, candelabras make the perfect centrepiece choice.  The piece of decor invokes feelings of intimacy, romance and mystique. Most wedding decorators offer candelabras with a choice of LED or naked candles.

Candlelight

Celebrating your nuptials against a sea of candlelight is the stuff of dreams. If you prefer candles without the candelabra, glass candlesticks are a popular centrepiece choice. Long candlesticks work well on the bridal table and your round tables, too.

For a budget-friendly option, try floating tealights in a half full fish bowl. Pair with lush foliage for an affordable centrepeice that won’t stretch the budget.

Keep in mind that when hiring naked candles, some wedding decorators may change a cleanup fee or an increased hire fee to cover the additional risk.

Bridal table

Naturally, all eyes will be on the bride and groom so it’s no surprise couples spend a lot of time thinking about their top table decorations. Whether you’re planning on a sweetheart table or more traditional seating arrangements, your choice of bridal centrepiece is really important.

If you’re hiring wedding decor from an established company, they should have a range of complementary bridal and round table decorations to choose from.

Popular trends include sweetheart tables set against a floral wedding arch, finished with an assortment of candles in lanterns. Floral bridges that run above the top table with matching table foliage and beautiful Westeria trees set on either side of your head table.

Things to consider

Here are a few things to consider before signing your hire agreement.

Breakage costs

If you’re having a large wedding and expect a lively affair, keep in mind that fragile glass centrepieces are at risk of breaking. If there is damage, most wedding decorators will deduct the breakage cost from your refundable deposit, so keep this in mind if you’re responsible for collecting and storing the items at the end of the night.

Sizing

This isn’t an issue if you’re hiring a fishbowl or glass vase, but large centrepieces such as Blossom or Wisteria trees can restrict the view of your guests, and make cross-table conversation difficult when placed in the middle of the table.

Complementary items

When dressing your venue, you want your centrepieces to work well with your round table decorations. For example, if you’re leaning towards a tall gold base with silk flowers as your table anchor, you may want to include gold charger plates and cutlery, finished with a gold-accented table runner for a consistent look.

Delivery

Most wedding decorators charge a separate fee for delivery based on the size of your order, the distance from their warehouse and the layout of the venue. If you’re hiring tall centrepieces for a large wedding and your reception venue is up or down a flight of stairs, you may have to pay a higher fee for delivery and collection.
